Hydro Flask Review -

Hydro Flask

A Hikers Best Friend

Finding our paths through landscapes, woods or mountains is an exciting adventure that mother nature gave us for free. More people these days start to enjoy and appreciate a hiking trip to leave the stress of life behind. However, in order to get the best out of the day, you need to bring a variety of gear with you. It is no surprise that water (or any other drink) is absolutely necessary to stay fit and be able to keep going. Now you may already own some kind of camel bag or bottle, but let us take a minute to take a closer look at this hydro flask. We’ll give you all the details you need to know, after which we will compare it to the quite popular Yeti cooler.

How It Works

hydro flask hikingLet us start by saying that the main purpose of this flask is to keep your drink cold (or hot if you wish) over a long period of time. In fact it does keep your beverage cool for 24 hours and hot for about 6 to 12 hours. Let’s just assume that most people use it to keep things chilly. The way it works is pretty simple actually. It consists of two layers of stainless steel with a vacuum in between them. Since there are no substances within a vacuum, there is hardly any transmission of warmth towards the interior of the hydro flask.

Interior And Exterior

Besides that, it’s very easy to clean. The outside is available in a powder coat or typical stainless finish. Cool fact is that they are available in many different colors. Since condensation is prevented by the structure, you will not experience any leakage or wet hands when taking it our of your bag.

The item measures approximately 10 inches in height and 3 inches in diameter. When empty it weighs 0.75 pounds. It can hold almost 2/3 of a liter which equals to 21 oz (US fluid ounces). There is a bigger model available with a volume of 1.2 liters (which is 40 oz). You will get a warranty for life in case you purchase your own.

Hydro Flask Versus Yeti Cooler

Whichever you choose, they will both keep your water very cool for the whole day. They weigh almost the same and have an identical capacity. Below you’ll see a video where they have been tested with ice cubes over a period of 20 hours. Both still had icy remains inside of them, but the Hydro had more. Then there’s the cap. What we dislike about the Yeti is that the cap is ‘clicked’ onto the top. Not that it comes off easily, but a screw mechanism would have been better. We consider it to be perfect for a train trip or a day at the park, especially since it allows you to drink like you would normally do with any cup. When you compare the prices there is a huge difference. The Hydro is 3 times cheaper! Besides that, it has an opening at the top to easily attach it to your backpack which makes it ideal for hiking.
