Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan recently shocked everyone with his statement that megastar Amitabh Bachchan should retire now. Acclaimed script writer Salim Khan was talking to a daily when he shared his piece of advice for Big B. Only a few know that Salim Khan has worked with Amitabh Bachchan in more than 10 films. Jai-Veeru of ‘Sholay’ were conceived and brought into existence by the then famous Salim-Javed jodi. However, now he thinks that Amitabh should ‘free himself from the race’. During the interview Salim was quoted saying, ‘Amitabh Bachchan should retire now. He has achieved all that he had to in this life. One should keep a few years of life for oneself as well. Amitabh Bachchan has played a brilliant innings professionally. He has done good work so he must free himself from the race. He must take a graceful retirement.’ He also added, ‘Amitabh Bachchan was the hero who could play an angry young man, he still is. However, there are no stories for an actor like Amitabh now. Our films have improved technically, the music and action have improved but we do not have good scripts.’ Citing his own example Salim shared how he took the exit from the industry at the right point of time and enjoys his life with his non-filmy friends. Amitabh and Salim have given films like ‘Don’, ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Deewar’, ‘Majboor’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Kaala Patthar’ and ‘Dostana’ amongst others to the Hindi-film industry. However, Big B has not talked about his retirement plans till date except in one of his blogs in November 2019, when writing about how his day went at a shoot Big B hinted at his exit and wrote, ‘Another new environment and another readjustment to room and its accoutrements.. I must retire.. the head is thinking something else and the fingers another.. it’s a message.’ Amitabh Bachchan, who recently turned 79, will soon be seen in ‘Goodbye’, ‘Brahmastra’ and ‘The Intern’.
