BHOPAL: There’s a worrying uptick in Covid cases in Madhya Pradesh just when all restrictions have been lifted. As many as 22 new cases were detected on Wednesday, the first time in a month that the daily count touched 20 or more.
What’s worrying is the trend. In the last five days, 75 new Covid cases have been detected. This is 150% higher than the tally of the previous five days. Wednesday was the fifth consecutive day when daily cases were in double digits.
The active case tally has again crossed 100 and now stands at 104, according to the state health bulletin. MP’s Covid tally has risen to 7,93,074. Indore, with 13 new cases, was the only district to report the daily count in double digits. Bhopal was at second place with five cases. Prior to this, it was on October 27 that 20 new Covid cases were reported in the state.
In another worrying trend, testing continues to be low. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has reiterated that at least 70,000 tests must be conducted every day, but on Wednesday, only 57,387 samples were tested. The positivity rate is still low, at 0.03%, but Covid precautions are a must to keep it that way or better still, even lower.
There were eight recoveries on November 24, taking the cure count to 7,82,443.
