Exclusive: Meera Chopra seeks help as she gets duped by her interior designer; here’s what she says
Global icon Priyanka Chopra’s sister Meera Chopra has filed an FIR against interior designer Rajinder Dewan, accusing him of outraging a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, and pushing her out of her own house. The interior designer was working on her new house in Mumbai’s Andheri area after signing an agreement for a total payment of 17 lakh rupees. Speaking to a portal Meera claimed that she made half of the payment upfront and left for a shoot in Benaras. After her return she found out that the designer was using substandard material. Meera stated that when she confronted Rajinder, he got abusive in front of the workers and pushed her out of her house. She also alleged that after she discontinued his services, the designer disappeared and not returned the balance amount, post which she was forced to file a police complaint. It has been two months since the FIR was filed, but according to Meera, no action has yet been taken by the Mumbai police. On October 12, Meera took to Twitter and tagged Maharashtra CM’s office, Aditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut in her post and wrote, ‘#womansafety should be the utmost priority where you live, but then why do lawmakers shy away from taking action? A girl living alone should be protected anyhow.’ The said FIR has been lodged under sections 354 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting modesty of a woman). On the work front, Meera will soon be seen in ‘Nastik’, which also stars Harshaali Malhotra and Arjun Rampal in pivotal roles.
